Swinton Estate & BASC - Introduction to Deer Management Day
Swinton Estate is delighted to be working with BASC North to host an exclusive Introduction to Deer Stalking day for BASC members.
Set across approximately 20,000 acres of North Yorkshire countryside, Swinton Estate is home to a managed Fallow deer herd and wild Roe deer, alongside a purpose-built larder facility. This introductory day is designed for those considering taking their first steps into deer stalking and looking to gain a better understanding of what is involved.
The day will include:
- Introduction to Deer Stalking – An overview of deer management, why deer populations need to be managed, how to get involved, and potential training and next steps
- Deer management demonstration – A practical demonstration covering carcass preparation and inspection, led by Estate Deer Manager, Ollie Seague
- Carcass butchery demonstration – An introduction to the basic principles and techniques involved in preparing venison
- Live firing – An opportunity to practise marksmanship using the Estate rifle, with targets set at distances of up to 100 metres
Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor conditions. If you have your own deer-legal rifle, valid FAC and ammunition, you are welcome to bring them, but please let us know in advance.
Tickets cost £150 per person and include tea, coffee and pastries on arrival, plus a venison burger and drink for lunch.
Please note: this event is exclusively for BASC members.
